Looking for the best game day food? These crowd-pleasing recipes cover everything from cheesy dips and fried chicken to loaded nachos, sliders, tacos and much more.

I’ll be honest, I get more excited about the food than I do the football. Which actually works out well, because as you can imagine, all heads turn my way when it comes to snack duties.
Over the years, I have built up quite the list of recipes that are absolutely made for football season. Whether you’re feeding a whole crowd or just putting together a few favourites for kickoff, there’s plenty here to build a seriously good game day spread without ending up with a table full of forgettable snacks. Basically, if it belongs on game day and it’s genuinely worth making, it’s in here.
To help you navigate and find your new favourite game day snack, I’ve placed the recipes into 7 categories:

Classic Game Day Appetizers (7 recipes)
Crispy, cheesy, golden and made for sharing, these are the kind of snacks that disappear almost as quickly as you put them down. Exactly the sort of game day food that keeps everyone going back for one more.
1. Baked Jalapeño Poppers

There’s a reason jalapeño poppers are game day royalty. You get heat, crunch and a creamy, cheesy centre in one neat little bite – exactly the sort of thing people keep circling back for.
2. Blooming Onion

Few appetizers make an entrance quite like a blooming onion. Tear it apart, dunk it into sauce and watch the whole thing disappear. It’s over-the-top sharing food in the best possible way!
3. Fried Ravioli

Turning ravioli into finger food might be one of the better ideas the world has had. These are crisp, cheesy and built for dipping, which is pretty much everything I want from a game day snack.
4. Blue Cheese-Stuffed Buffalo Chicken Meatballs

Buffalo flavour is practically compulsory on game day, and these meatballs make it ridiculously easy to share. They’re bite-sized, saucy and loaded with oozy blue cheese!
5. Beer Battered Onion Rings

You really can’t go wrong with a mountain of homemade onion rings. Serve them hot and crunchy with a few dips on the side and they’ll be picked off the plate in no time.
6. Fried Cheese Balls

If we’re talking game day food, deep-fried cheese was always going to make the cut. Golden and crunchy on the outside with a gooey centre, these are dangerously easy to keep going back to.
7. Breaded Mushrooms

These are for anyone who thinks mushrooms have no place on a game day spread – until they try one. The crisp coating and juicy centre make them ridiculously good for dunking. They are also marinated beforehand for EXTRA flavour.
Game Day Dips (6 recipes)
No game day spread is complete without something to dunk into. Whether you’re after something hot and cheesy, cool and creamy or fresh and punchy, these are my favourite dips for keeping everyone coming back for another scoop.
1. Baked Spinach & Artichoke Dip

Hot spinach artichoke dip is classic party food for a reason. It’s rich, creamy and cheesy, and exactly the kind of dip people hover around until they’ve scraped the dish clean.
2. Chunky Guacamole

Among all the fried and cheesy stuff, a big bowl of guacamole definitely earns its keep. It’s fresh, creamy and punchy, and somehow you can keep scooping away without even realising how much you’ve eaten.
3. Baked Jalapeño Popper Dip

This is the kind of dip you’ll want right in the centre of the table. Hot, bubbling and seriously cheesy with just enough heat to cut through the richness. And yes, that crumb is bacon-fried Ritz cracker!
4. Homemade Fresh Salsa

Every game day spread needs something fresh and punchy to break up all the rich stuff. A big bowl of homemade salsa does exactly that, and it never takes long before everyone starts diving in.
5. Ranch

Ranch isn’t here to steal the show, but somehow it ends up next to half the food on the table. Cool, creamy and ridiculously versatile – make more than you think you’ll need.
6. Blue Cheese Dip

If you’re serving anything Buffalo-style, this is non-negotiable in my eyes. That cool, tangy creaminess is exactly what you want alongside anything hot, crispy or spicy.
Fried Chicken, Wings & Tenders (7 recipes)
Crispy chicken and game day are a match made in heaven. Whether you’re after something fiery, saucy or seriously crunchy, these are the kind of recipes made for piling high on a platter and getting stuck into.
1. Nashville Chicken Tenders

If you want your fried chicken with a proper kick, start here. These bring serious crunch and plenty of heat, making them just the thing to wake up a table full of game day snacks.
2. Popcorn Chicken

Bite-sized chicken is dangerously well suited to game day. No knife or fork – just grab, dunk and repeat until you suddenly realise half the bowl has gone.
3. Sweet and Sour Chicken Wings

These are sticky, sweet and tangy in all the right ways – just put out plenty of napkins and embrace the mess!
4. Garlic Parmesan Chicken Tenders

Not everyone wants their chicken with spice. These still bring loads of flavour and crunch, but with that savoury, cheesy garlic hit that makes them dangerously easy to demolish.
5. Buttermilk Fried Chicken

Sometimes only proper fried chicken will do. This is the one to bring out when you want something a little more substantial than snacks, and it always hits the spot!
6. Dorito Chicken Tenders

Coating chicken in Doritos is completely unnecessary, which is precisely why it works so well here. They’re crunchy, fun and exactly the sort of recipe people ask about before they’ve even tried one.
7. Crispy Baked Chicken Tenders

When you’ve already got a million other things on the go, letting the oven handle the chicken is no bad thing. These still bring the crunch without another pan of oil demanding your attention.
Nachos, Fries & Loaded Potatoes (8 recipes)
This is where things start getting seriously loaded. Think crispy nachos, cheesy fries, golden tater tots and all the toppings you can handle – basically everything you want within grabbing distance when the game starts.
1. BBQ Chicken Nachos

A huge tray of loaded nachos in the middle of the table is hard to beat. Add BBQ chicken into the mix, and you’ve got the kind of smoky, cheesy, saucy situation everyone will go bonkers for.
2. Cheeseburger Loaded Waffle Fries

This is exactly the sort of ridiculous mash-up game day was made for. Crispy waffle fries loaded like a cheeseburger. Gloriously messy, seriously cheesy and absolutely worth the extra napkins.
3. Chicken Fajita Nachos

These take everything that’s great about fajitas and pile it onto a tray of crispy nachos. Loads of flavour, loads of toppings and a whole lot easier to share around the table.
4. Loaded Smashed Tater Tots

Tater tots are already dangerously snackable, but smashing and loading them takes things to another level. You get loads of crispy edges with all the good stuff piled on top!
5. No-Bake Nachos

Oven space quickly becomes premium real estate when you’re making a full game day spread, so nachos that don’t need it are genuinely useful. Get them loaded up and on the table while everything else cooks.
6. Mini Twice-Baked Potatoes

These give you all the comfort of a loaded baked potato in a much more snackable size. Watch as everyone in the room asks you for the recipe!
7. Chicken Fries

If you were ever in doubt that the best kind of fries are ultra-crispy ones made of chicken, here is your reminder.
8. Fried Mashed Potato Balls

Golden on the outside, soft and fluffy in the middle and exactly the right size to pick up and dunk.
Sliders, Burgers & Hot Dogs (7 recipes)
For something a little more substantial, you can’t go wrong with burgers, sliders and hot dogs. These are big on flavour, easy to serve and exactly the sort of ridiculously delicious food I want to be eating while watching the game.
1. Double Smash Burgers

When appetizers aren’t going to cut it, smash burgers step in. These are hearty, juicy and stupidly simple to make.
2. Baked Chili Cheese Dogs

Few things feel more football than a loaded chili cheese dog. These are baked until bubbly, then loaded with crispy onions and bacon!
3. Cheesy Chicken & Mushroom Sliders

Sliders are practically designed for feeding a group, and these bring something a little different to the usual beef versions. Warm, cheesy and ridiculously comforting.
4. Cowboy Burgers

If you’re going to put another burger on the table, it needs to bring something different. These are big, bold and loaded to the brim with all the good stuff.
5. Hot Dog Grilled Cheese

A hot dog turned into a grilled cheese is every bit as ridiculous as it sounds – and I mean that as the highest compliment. It’s familiar football food turned into crazy delicious.
6. Dr Pepper Pulled Pork

This is the sort of recipe that makes feeding a group feel effortless. Pile the pork into buns, put everything in the middle of the table and let everyone help themselves while you get back to the game.
7. Patty Melt

Somewhere between a burger and a grilled cheese is exactly where game day food likes to live. This is proper comfort food that leaves smiles all round!

1. BBQ Chicken Pizza

Pizza is already a game day no-brainer, but this BBQ chicken version really takes things to new heights.
2. Buffalo Chicken Mac & Cheese

This might just be the most game-day mac and cheese imaginable. It takes creamy, cheesy comfort food and gives it that unmistakable Buffalo kick!
3. Pizza Roll Ups

These give you all the good stuff you want from pizza in a much more snackable package. They’re cheesy, easy to pick up and ideal when you want something people can grab without stopping for a plate.
4. Spicy Jalapeño Mac & Cheese

If Buffalo mac is for the hot sauce lovers, this one is for the bacon lovers. Rich, smoky, cheesy and with just enough spice to keep things exciting!

7. Puff Pastry Pinwheels

Pinwheels are ideal when you want something small, savoury and easy to make plenty of. They’re flaky, cheesy and exactly the sort of little bite people can grab whenever they wander past the food.

If you like your game day food cheesy, crispy and with a little kick, this section delivers. Everything here is packed with flavour, made for getting stuck into and guaranteed to bring a bit of fun to the game day spread.
1. Jalapeño Popper Chicken Tacos

Two very good game day ideas collide here, and the result is every bit as delicious as you’d imagine. They’re creamy, cheesy, a little spicy and incredibly moreish!
2. Chicken Tostadas

Tostadas give you that all-important crunch while still being substantial enough to keep everyone going. Load them up, get them on the table and don’t worry too much about eating them elegantly.
3. Chipotle Chicken Taquitos

Crispy, compact and built for dipping – taquitos make an awful lot of sense on a game day table.
4. Cheesy Ground Beef Quesadillas

There’s a reason quesadillas are such reliable party food. Golden and crisp on the outside with a seriously cheesy filling, you can slice them into wedges and let everyone dive straight in.
5. Taco Pockets

These solve one of the only annoying things about tacos: half the filling ending up on your lap. Everything is tucked neatly inside a crispy tortilla, making them much easier to hold while you’re watching the game.
6. Mini Burrito Cups

All the good stuff in a burrito, only shrunk down into little individual bites. They are just the right size for grabbing whenever you walk past!
7. Quesadilla Cones

Are quesadillas shaped into cones completely necessary? Absolutely not. Are they much more fun this way? Absolutely yes – which is exactly the sort of logic I’m looking for on game day.
8. Upside Down Puff Pastry Tacos

I’m using the word “taco” fairly loosely here, but game day really isn’t the time to start being sensible. Crispy puff pastry and taco flavours come together in a fun little bite that’s definitely different from everything else on the table.
