‘ Smooth and creamy yet light and silky, this Avocado, Rocket and Basil Pesto Pasta is super easy to make for a quick lunch or dinner ‘

Ahh pesto my dear friend, it’s been a hot minute since we last met with The Ultimate 10 Minute Pesto Pasta. Since then I kinda feel like I’m cheating on you… Or at least adding a few new members to our relationship. Okay crap this is getting weird *clears throat* what I’m trying to say is instead of traditional pesto, this time I’ve added in another couple of goodies! Much better..

Avocado, Rocket and Basil Pesto Pasta

I absolutely adore rocket (otherwise known as arugula). It’s got a beautiful peppery bite to it and adds a really nice twang to this dish.

The avocado offers a real hearty component to the pesto. When blended with the oil, you get a nice silky yet creamy finish which is just soooo yummy. This works perfectly with the linguine as it just oozes in and out of the noodle.

Mixed in with a little crunch from the pine nuts? You seriously can’t beat it. Okay, let’s move on.

Avocado, Rocket and Basil Pesto Pasta

The beauty of making a pesto is that it’s so easy to adapt and make to preference. Just simply taste test after the final combination and add in any extra measurements accordingly. These quantities worked for me and I’m confident they will for you too. But at the same time I really do encourage you to follow your pesto pallet’s and use this as a basis to suit your taste buds.

Avocado, Rocket and Basil Pesto Pasta

Pesto pasta is the perfect quick fix lunch or dinner and this avocado and rocket twist is the best addition. Let me know how you get on folks and I’ll catch you on the next post! Full recipe below.

Course: Dinner, Lunch, Main Course
Cuisine: Italian, Vegetarian
Servings: 4
Calories: 406 kcal
Author: Chris
  • 10.5 oz (300g) Linguine or pasta of choice
  • 1 Ripe Avocado
  • 1 packed cup Fresh Basil
  • 2/3 packed cup Fresh Rocket
  • 2 Heaped tbsp of Parmesan plus extra to serve
  • 2 tbsp Toasted Pine Nuts
  • 1 Clove of Garlic
  • Juice from 1/2 Lemon
  • 4-5 tbsp of Extra Virgin Olive Oil or as needed
  • Salt & Pepper to taste
  1. If they aren't toasted already, lightly fry the Pine Nuts in a saucepan - no oil needed- until golden.
  2. Pop your Linguine in salted water and cook accordingly
  3. Meanwhile, add your Basil, Rocket, Avocado, Pine Nuts, Parmesan, Garlic, Lemon Juice and Seasoning in a food processor and blitz until combined, slowly adding in your Olive Oil to thin out. You don't need to work the pesto too much else it can become a little frothy; you want to keep a slight crunch from the Pine Nuts.
  4. Combine with your Linguine and toss gently over low-medium heat until hot throughout. Serve with garnish and an extra sprinkle of Parmesan. Enjoy!

I like pasta and pesto and your suggestion of adding bacon makes it sound all the better.

Certainly going to try this one, but will use walnuts in place of the pine nuts (until the price comes down!

Hi Chris – Thanks for the follow today! I love your website – although at first sight of the notification, I did wonder if the former Leader of the Labour Party Ed Miliband had been reading my blog (you have to be a Brit to get that – an unfortunate pic of him with a bacon sandwich a few years ago which regularly returns to haunt him!!). Love pasta too – especially with pesto – I’ll be posting a blog in the next few weeks about taking a class with an Italian cook, learning to make pasta from scratch – hope you enjoy reading about that when it pops up online. Looking forward to exploring your site – happy Wednesday (or whatever day it is where you are!!) x

This sounds great, but what is rocket? Is there anything similar I could sub for it?

Rocket is often referred to as ‘Arugula’ in other parts of the world. If you’re still not sure, do give it a try before you put it in this recipe. I LOVE it, but it can be an acquired taste. Feel free to just leave it out and go for an Avocado and Basil pesto if you fancy 🙂
