‘It really does put me on edge when I hear someone say: “I don’t eat breakfast” Like, pardon? Apart from brunch, lunch, dinner and the 14 other meals I squeeze between them, breakfast is the only reason I get out of bed in the morning. The most important meal of the day right? Sweet, savoury, hot or cold, baked or fried I’m satisfied, as long as I get my.. Well, breakfast.

We are gathered here to today to not only stare at delicious food porn, but to discuss the current top breakfast trends that have people going cuckoo for cocopops. Disclaimer – No cocopops will be featured in this countdown. CUE: 8 Breakfast Trends Getting Us Out Of Bed In The Morning.

8. Overnight Oats

overnight oats

For someone who doesn’t often eat oats, I’d oately give these a go. Sorry that was bad even for me. Overnight oats are the modern day’s answer to working smarter, not harder. Prepare them the night before and wake up to a beautiful jar of deliciousness. These blew up the world of blogging a few years back and have yet to die down since. Hey, when they look that damn pretty who’s complaining?

Ever wake up and just want to demolish a gluten-free, paleo, vegan, raw, carb-free, calorie-free, breakfast-free breakfast? Well, no. Look I get it, all these stunning breakfast bowls aimed at the health conscious look AMAZING and most taste great too. But I don’t think the world is going to stop until we’re eating flowers.

6. Breakfast Nachos

Holy moly moose how good do these look!? There’s very few ways you can make a tray of regular nachos even more desirable, but when you make it acceptable to eat them for breakfast, I’m sold. Breakfast nachos range from using toast as nachos, right through to using waffles (above). This growing phenomenon has opened up a whole new world in nacho eating, one certainly worth getting out of bed for.

Of course, how could I write a post about breakfast trends without adding our good friend benedict. This dish is without a doubt the most popular order when eating out. Potentially a more famous brunch now, eggs benedict has made it’s mark in the world of cafes over the globe.

4. Shakshuka

Speaking of eggs, how about poaching them in tomatoes? This dish originates in Tunisia and now popular within middle eastern countries, has quickly made it’s way overseas to us hungry bunch. Often spiced with chilli and cumin, this breakfast beauty is certainly a trend for the homecooks among us. And for people who enjoy making low carb breakfasts and then throwing a ft long baguette in it.

3. Breakfast Drinks

Too busy to knock up a Shakshuka? Join the rest of the population who drink their breakfast. I’m so guilty of this, grabbing a shake before you leave for work cause your comfy bed made you late. Smoothies, iced coffees, juices, shakes, the lot. You name it and we’ll make it into a drinkable breakfast. Hey, that’s a fun game!

2. Cloud Eggs

How do you like your eggs in the morning? Well since you asked, I like mine looking like fluffy clouds. Cloud eggs are the latest breakfast trend taking social media by storm. Or in this case a minor storm with a sun peeking through. Move over fried egg, you were so last year.
